This is a very exciting moment! BeCville is coming to life after a year of planning, talking, and thinking about a process that puts residents at the center of improving their neighborhoods. In our case, we are focused on finding ways that the arts can play a role in responding to community needs.
Over the next year we will be working with local residents to decide how to spend $15,000 on art projects that improve their neighborhood. Here are a few ideas what how art can respond to community needs.
1. After school art programs
2. Community celebrations
3. Creative crosswalks that make our streets safe
4. Community mixtapes that highlight neighborhood music
5. Mural’s remembering important local figures
6. Or, do you have a creative idea of your own
We want to put the power of funding and creating public art projects in your hands.
This website is going to be at the center of this process. Over the coming months we will be sharing our inspiration, showing the important work our steering committee is doing, and reaching out to the community in order to get them involved.
You can play a major role in making this happen. If you have any questions, ideas, or feedback we would love to hear from you. More importantly, if you have some time to volunteer, there are an immense amount of opportunities to be involved. Feel free to get in touch at any time.
Thanks again for your interest in BeCville and making Charlottesville into a world class city for everyone.
