When most people think about art, their mind pictures a colorful painting, a black and white photograph, or a statue on a pedestal. Typically, you would have to go to a museum or a gallery to see this work. But, that is only one way of thinking about art or going to see it. Art is a part of our culture, and culture is everywhere. It is the music we listen to, the clothes we wear, the food we eat, and the pictures we hang on our walls.
For Be-Cville, we want the art that is created to be based on the culture of the neighborhood. Art can include hip hop, quilting, murals, dance, and a host of other forms. In the end, our focus is to have art resonate with the community and represent those who live there.
